Aguilar Triumphant over Trujillo
Posted: May 17, 2012
Its five days until Aguilar and Trujillo lock horns, and for Team 515's Kevin "The Angel of Death Aguilar" it's business as usual as he prepares for his upcoming battle...a little bit of grappling, hitting the mitts with boxing coach James Compton, a little bit of cardio, and with the fight days away Team 515 is not slouching around, they are intense and focused on the task at hand...winning. As i watch Aguilar prepare for his bout one thing is clearly evident - HE is ready. With an undefeated record and hopeful for a contract with Kim Cole Addison's Ascend Combat hanging in the balance, Aguilar knows what needs to be done, he must finish Rey Trujillo at all costs. Its not an easy feat for Trujillo is an incredibly tough match up for any opponent. Not only is he an aggressive striker with knockout power in both hands, he is also a solid wrestler and grappler. But the game plan seems simple, fend off the aggressor, counter, take him down and finish him off on the mat, if it were only that easy.
March 24 has arrived, both men are amped and ready for action. As the two gladiators make their way down to the Ascend Combat cage, the crowd is on their feet, poised and ready for what promises to be a classic battle of two great fighters. The bell rings and we are underway and the fighters do not disappoint, throwing bombs at one another looking for that knockout punch that will send their opponent to dream land. The fighters are intense, mesmerizing the onlooking mob of MMA enthusiasts as they battle it out, each fighter giving it their all, and as they jockey for position Aguilar lands a hard elbow to the left side of Trujillo's face, but he would not denied so easily as he slams Aguilar hard onto the center of the mat with a massive takedown that resounded through the sold out arena.
The fight progresses quickly, and as the second round nears its end, both fighters seem to be wearing down due to the relentless combat they both are enduring, Trujillo has had an amazing second round and appears to be slightly ahead on the judges scorecards, a fight so close i wouldn't want to be the man judging the bout. Then as it appears Trujilo may be nearing his 11th profession victory, he makes one mistake and in a split second Aguilar locks on a triangle and its deep, Trujillo fights and scrambles and as he tries to roll out of his predicament, he winds up on bottom with Aguilar in mount, triangle locked in securely and Aguilar tees off on Trujillo's noggin, leaving the official no choice but to stop the carnage at the end of the second round. The crowd roars and applauds the two fighters for a spectacular bout and finish, Kevin Aguilar is once again victorious, 5-0, and now has what he has been dreaming about for sometime - a three-fight contract with Ascend Combat.
It's all smiles and hugs in the 515 locker room, the fierce look of intensity Aguilar had donned all week is now gone and he is once again his humble self, thanking his coaches for their dedication and hard work preparing him for this fight. A few days rest in the coming days ahead and then its back to the gym to prepare for his next bout, May 19, 2012 for Ascend Combat in Shreveport, LA. Congratulations Kevin on a hard earned and well-deserved victory and we look forward to more great fights from you. We would also like to extend congratulations to Rey Trujillo for his efforts in the match, he fought well and with a ton of heart! Keep an eye out for both of these young men as the surely have promising careers in this amazing sport in front of them.
